The team of Siti Salwa and Nurfaezah
whacked their way to top honours in the Malaysia Day Muhibah Golf 2005
held at the Royal Brunei Golf Club, Jerudong Park & Country Club
yesterday.
Salwa
and Nurfaezah carded a 75 in the Stableford Combined Scores category,
to win on a countback over Lt Col (A) Shaifudin and Adam Lesley, who
had to be satisfied with second place, while Chris Yong and Ting Siu
Sing finished third.
The pair of Lt Col (rtd) Hj Brahim Hj
Jumahat and Tony Tan emerged as champions in the Team Muhibah Gross
category with their total score of 166. Col. Oh Beng Chih and Hj Hamid
Dollah were second while Khalil Arifin and Yong Tet Wee finished in
third place.
Meanwhile, Hj Hamid Dollah claimed
the individual nett win, with a score of 43. Siti Salwa and Lt Col (A)
Shaifudin came in second and third spots respectively. Hazman Abu
Hassan carded a 76 to claim the individual gross title, while Lt Col (rtd)
Brahim was second and and Dr Ding Pei Kong third.
The highlight of the meet though was
the hole-in-one achieved by Hj Md Idris Hj Md Noor when he made the
ace at hole number 16 and won himself a cash prize of $5,000 courtesy
of S S Ting. Hj Md Idris also won the novelty prize for "nearest to
the pin" at hole number 16.
Ismail
Hj Chuchu won for "nearest to the pin" at hole number 13; Hj Hamid
Dollah won in the same category at hole number 8; while Suhardi Rizal
won at hole number 3.
Tan Chung Ken won the bull's eye
prize at hole number 16, while Salleh Yussof won a $100 voucher for
the worst score of 13 strokes at par-5 hole number 2. Hj Omar Hj Asmat
won for "longest drive" at hole number 17, while Dato Hj Wahab Juned
won for "nearest to the line" at hole number 4.
94 golfers took part in the
tournament, organised by Persatuan Warganegara Malaysia (PWM) Negera
Brunei Darussalam in conjunction with the Malaysian National Day
celebrations. On hand to present prizes to the winners was the
Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Datuk Ali Abdullah.
