Students Explore Rural Brunei

Begawan - 'Menyusur Mukim dan Kampong' programme recently
brought together over 30 overseas scholarship undergraduate students
to explore some of the remote villages in the country.
Led by Director of Information
DepartmentAwg Hj Bujang bin Haji Masu'ut, the students joined the
programme after having completed a five-day civic course at the Seameo
Voctech, organised by the Information Department in partnership with
the Ministry of Defence.
The Defence Ministry also provided
logistic support and four buses to transports students to the rural
regions, while the Royal Brunei Police offered valuable escort.
The programme broughtthe students to
places such as Tasik Merimbun Research Centre, remote' villages of
Kampung Sungai Mau and Than longhouse as well as picturesque spot such
as Wasai Wong Kadir waterfall.
According to Awg Hj Bujang, the
expedition enabled the students to be aware of the ongoing development
in rural areas, the communities and the grassroot leadership
structure.
Abd
Mateen, a BSP scholarship student studying geophysics at Leeds
University, said the trip opened his eyes while Mohd Helni from Oxford
University thought the trip was a good exposure to participants.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohd Radzi believed
the trip helped him become more aware of the country's rural regions,
adding that the programme offered the students something fun to do
during the summer break - most of the participants were students
pursuing their studies in the United Kingdom. --
