Gambling Den Busted
By M K Anwwar

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Anti Vice and Gambling Operation Unit of the Royal Brunei Police Force swooped on a gambling house in Kg Kiulap after acting on a public tip off and shut it down.

During an operation on August 1, personnel from the unit raided a house that was allegedly operating as a gambling house.

Six local Chinese and four foreign Chinese were caught during the raid, two of which were women gamblers.

Despite installing close circuit TV cameras, allocating sentries to be on the look out for the authorities and securing the front door heavily, the gambling proprietors had forgotten one thing, to secure the back door of their gambling den.

They were surprised by the police who stormed the premises through the back door.

A total of $8114 in cash were found and believed to have been used in gambling activities.

Also during the raid the authorities found that they were playing 'Pai Kaw'.

The police have also seized other gambling equipment at the premises including some undeclared alcohol.

All that were caught during the raid have so far been released on bail. They however can be charged for their offences under the Common Gaming House Act 28 which can bring them a maximum fine of $10,000 or maximum jail sentence of three years or even both. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
