Dell Sounds Warning

Bandar Seri Begawan - Consumers beware when you buy Dell™ computers from vendors. Always ask if they are authorised to sell the product and about the support.

Most consumers are unaware that some of these vendors do not have the license or authority to advertise or sell some of the products on display. Consumers may encounter some difficulty at a later stage of their purchase on the support and warranty from the particular vendor.

Sales Manager of Dell™ Singapore had been to Brunei several times, to track down errant vendors, who sell Dell™ corporate products, Dell sources said.

It was found that these vendors would only give a one year warranty and charge extra for a three year warranty.

According to the Sales Manager Dell™ corporate brands come with a three year warranty at no extra cost. Brands such as the Latitude, Precision laptops / notebook or Precision desktops computers all come with a three year warranty.

Dell™ products, especially the Latitude and Precision models must only be purchased from the respective System Integrator (SI), Dell sources said.

Vendors are not allowed to advertise any of the Dell™ products, only System Integrators are given the privilege to do so.

This is because of the warranty of the products. Errant resellers of Dell™ Latitude or Precision models must have a three year warranty which is included in the price; however it was found that some vendors give only one year warranty for the corporate products, which, in Dell™ view, tarnishes its name.

Latitude and Precision models are for corporate users and not for ordinary consumers. System Integrators are the sole distributors for Brunei.
