Softball meet off with a bang

Gunners Softball Tournament 2005 started with a bang with 14 teams in action at the Menglait Sports Complex yesterday.

Pehin Dato Major Gen (R) Hj Jaafar bin Hj Abd Aziz, President of Brunei Darussalam Amateur Softball and Baseball Association officially launched the meet.

Hosts Gunners won in their opening match beating Banzai 4-0 but Banzai bounced back to beat Empire Gladiators 7-1 in Group C. Empire Gladiators had earlier beaten Raiders 6-3.

Group B Wizards were crushed by both Knights and Zombies with the same 11-0 scoreline while JAG lost 22-0 to Zombies, 5-0 to Black Arrow and 20-1 to Knights.

In Group A, Sluggers defeated Redskins 6-1. Wanderers crushed SAS (St Andrews) 25-1 and Sluggers 12-1 and SAS later lost 28-0 to Miri Oilers.

The tournament continues at 8am today at the same venue and the finals will be held on Sunday at 4pm.
