Brunei Party Welcomes Malaysia's Offer To Boost Brunei Agriculture
By Maya Salleh

Bandar Seri Begawan - The close cooperation and neighbourly ties between the governments of Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia reached new heights during the state visit of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The four-eye meeting between His Majesty and Malaysian Premier, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi concluded positively with Malaysia rendering its full support on expert assistance to the Brunei government in developing the country's agriculture sector and industry.

The Brunei Solidarity National Party (PPKB) welcomed this commitment from the government of Malaysia and in a press release, it’s President; Dr Haji Mohd Hatta bin Haji Zainal Abidin lauded the Malaysian government in committing itself to assist the Brunei government in developing agriculture.

He said, this agreement reached between the two governments will provide a good industry alternative to the oil and gas industry for Brunei to venture into and develop on a large scale.

He added, "The country, rich in fertile lands in the four districts, has the potential to do well in agriculture. In addition the agricultural sector and industry can be expanded and developed, boosted by the expert assistance to be rendered by the Malaysian government.

I am confident that this cooperation will see its fruits in the long-run."

The press release further stated Dr Haji Mohd Hatta's optimism that this sector will be able to produce `halal' food products of high quality and nutritional values, which can be exported to other countries.

"With its success, our country will be able to not solely rely on the oil and gas sector as the country's economic resource but at the same time the government will continuously strive to boost the country's economy by developing other sectors such as the agriculture sector and industry as well as fisheries as the country's alternative national economic resource in the future," Dr Haji Mohd Hatta concluded. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
