Brunei, Singapore Forging Air Time

Bandar Seri Begawan - Some 30 officials from Brunei and the Republic of Singapore, meeting in the 14th Joint Technical Committee concerning co-operation in the field of broadcasting, conclude with the signing of a MoU at Centrepoint Hotel in Jln Gadong yesterday morning.

To mark the opening of the two-day meeting, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, co-chairman of the meeting cum Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office, in welcoming remarks said the close bonds in the field of broadcasting between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore has helped nurture a close rapport and better understanding between both country's culture and values.

The Brunei Permanent Secretary also stated that last month's Brunei delegation's visit to meet with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong indicated the close relationship that Brunei and Singapore enjoy and that ties will continue to be forged with the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of broadcasting between the two countries.

This year, Brunei and Singapore had synchronized the debates, the JTC and Sukarmairama, as a result Singapore hosted the 9'h Titan Minda, 8m Bridging Minds and 5th University Forum while it is now Brunei's turn for the 14th JTC and Sukmairama.

The arrangement had allowed efficient use of time to improve activities and add new ones in maintaining roles as bilateral broadcasting agencies.

Pehin Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hazair also thanked Singapore for the support in sending broadcasting and news agencies to Brunei to cover the Royal Wedding celebration.

Permanent Secretary of Singapore's Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts, Dr Tan Chin Nam as co-chairman of the meeting, also lauded the favourable ties between Brunei and Singapore.

The student programmes namely the University Forum and Titian Minda have shown close camaraderie to testify to warm ties between the youths of both nations. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
