Silver Lining For Brunei Karate

Bemedalled... the Brunei karate team on their return yesterday after a
successful outing at the KL karate-do championship.

Begawan - Bunei nabbed one silver and one bronze in a three-day
karate-do championship held at the Stadium Titiwangsain, KualaLumpur
recently.
The 13-member squad - consisting of
10 karate exponents and three officials - won the silver in team kata
through Hj Abd Malik, Hj Eddie Jofriani and Md Azarnain, while the
team of Md Sofian, Van Shahin Hairuddin, Hj Eddie Jofriani, Md Fazi1
Rewandie, Md Fadillah Sanif, Christopher Lo and Md Azizul won a bronze
for the country in team kumite (sparring).
The Brunei contingent was led by the
president of the Brunei Karate-do Association, who was also the team
manager, Pg Hj Yura Kastria bin PSN PgHj hid Yusof.
He was assisted by coach Ampuan Osman
and team official Malai Hj Jeffry Malai Hj Hashim.
Malai
Hj Jeffry said that the karatedo championship was organised by
Malaysia as a preparation for the upcoming SEA Games in December,
which will be hosted by Hanoi.
Members of the two Brunei medal
winning teams, along with female exponent Zuliana Hj Tengah, will
represent the sultanate in the SEA Games, he added.
The karate-do championship - held
from September 26 to 28 - was participated by 12 countries altogether,
including Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia,
