Bruneians Face Fake Sony Products
GM Warns
By Ignatius Stephen
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Bruneians beware. It may not be a Sony after all.
This warning comes from Mr Wong Kok
Phing General Manager Masros Electrical Company,
which markets more than 80 percent of
the sultanate’s electronic home and entertainment units.
His main concern was for the general
public who could fall victim of parallel importers some of whom are
cheating the customers with fake products.
His group includes Masros Electrical
Company and the Sony Customer Centre under Multitrons Sdn Bhd
providing after sales service from their premises at Block B No 6
Beribi Industrial Complex, Jalan Gadong in the Brunei capital.
Because Sony runs a credible and
caring after sales service here anyone buying Sony items the group
market may do so with full confidence.
“You do not buy, for example, an
expensive digital camera or a Home Theatre every day. Therefore you
might as well buy one which is genuine and receives proper after sales
service,” Mr Wong who is also General Manager Toshiba Service Centre
here remarked.
“There have been instances when
unauthorized dealers have been deceiving customers buying digital
cameras and not providing chargers and other essential accessories.
“When customers come back complaining
that these were missing, they are charged again for what they are
actually entitled get free when they first bought the item.
And when after sales service is
concerned these dealers charge the unwitting customer for “parts’. No
one knows what parts they put it and purchasers are charged at will.
In fact after sales service during the guarantee period should be
free.
“We strongly condemn such sharp
practices. Anyone of our more than 30 agents in Brunei doing this and
especially mix parallel imports will be terminated. We are very strict
on this, because we want to safeguard our valued customers.
“Unfortunately in recent times we had
to end our relations with some local outlets who tried to mix genuine
Sony products with parallel imports,” he said.
It is a matter of education, he
added. Cheap things that save you a few dollars may bring big
headaches later.
Mr
Wong and his team are currently organizing Sony Expo 2003 at the Dar
Takaful IBB Building in Jalan Pamanca in the Brunei capital, which
ends today, Sunday, with a Sony Goodies Hunt lucky draw at 8.pm.
Lucky prices on offer are Sony 29inch
flat screen TV, VCD Mini Hi-Fi and other items
He said that a main aim of the Sony
Expo was to educate the public to make them aware of the pitfalls in
buying fake products.
The Sony Expo, one of the most
comprehensive held here also gave a boost to its more than 30 agents
statewide in giving them publicity and in focusing on the innovative
and latest design in Sony technologies.
The successful event attracted
thousands of Bruneians who came in a steady stream to the fifth and
sixth floors of the splendid Dar Takaful IBB building throughout the
expo.
