Japanese Envoy Lauds Brunei For
Paving Knowledge-Based Economy

Begawan - The commitment of His Majesty’s government in
providing opportunities for the acquisition of several languages,
other skills and knowledge could pave the way for the promotion and
enhancement of a knowledge-based economy.
His Excellency, Mr Yo Shinobu,
Japanese Ambassador to Brunei, in his address at the 17th Japanese
Speech Contest yesterday afternoon said he was happy to see that there
has been an enthusiastic interest in studying Japanese in Brunei.
He lauded Brunei for providing this
opportunity through the continuing education section, Department of
Technical Education Ministry of Education.
His Excellency also said that the
opportunity to study Japanese is now more accessible, especially now
there are well established courses on offer at both University Brunei
Darussalam and the continuing education section of the Ministry of
Education.
Twenty three contestants took part in
the competition, organised by the continuing education section
Ministry of Education with the cooperation of the Japan Embassy in
Brunei.
The annual contest was aimed at
promoting Japanese language among Bruneians.
Japanese language continues to be a
popular choice amongst the Bruneian people with more than 120 students
are taking Japanese language course at University Brunei Darussalam
and about 130 students in language courses offered by the continuing
education section department.
