JTB Launches SMS Fixed Phone Lines

Bandar Seri Begawan - The popular Short Message Service (SMS) will no longer be an exclusive feature for mobile phone users in Brunei. Landline users now can send and receive SMS.

Jabatan Telecom Brunei (JTB) has now introduced this new service to subscribers with fixed lines in the country.

the soft launching inaugurated the new service yesterday at the “Karnival Telekom 2003.”

Unlike SMS through mobile phones, the SMS on fixed line telephones is much cheaper at a rate of 3 cents per SMS sent while SMS that are received are free of charge.

The service can only be used within the country.

The SMS facility for JTB phone lines will not only come handy for private use in houses but it will also work out as an easy and cheaper way to communicate in offices.

To use fixed line SMS subscribers only need to change their existing phones to a SMS phone, which can be purchased from JTB authorised telephone vendors.

Currently, subscribers can purchase the SMS telephone sets from Integrated Communications Sdn Bhd (INCOMM) branches throughout the district. Subscribers also need to subscribe to Caller ID service for a rental of $5 a month for the SMS landline service.

JTB is currently having an introductory promotion for the service. The promotion, which began yesterday, will last until November 15, 2003. Those who avail the service during this period need not have to pay the $10 registration fee and will also be waived from Caller ID rental fee for three months.

What’s more attracting in this promotion is that those who register during the promotion period will stand a chance to win attractive prizes through the SMS Fixed Phone “Subscribe and Win Lucky Draw Prizes”.

Prizes for this lucky draw are provided jointly by AIFA Sdn Bhd and INCOMM Sdn Bhd, which includes a grand prize of 29” television set with home theatre system. AIFA electrical appliances and products such as Casio Digital Camera along with a set of SMS Fixed Phone are also offered sponsored by INCOMM Sdn Bhd.
