Abandoned Baby Girl Saved From
Garbage Burning
By Liza Mohd
Kuala Belait
- A newborn baby girl was found dumped in a rubbish container
due for burning at Jalan Mumong Kecil, Kuala Belait on Friday night.
A Kampong Mumong resident allegedly
stumbled on the abandoned infant, reports said.
The baby was taken to the Suri Seri
Begawan Hospital at about 11.21 pm on Friday and is currently in a
healthy condition under the special care of the SSB maternity ward
sources said.
The baby girl was reportedly
discovered in a box wrapped in cloth inside the big rubbish container
located close to the junction leading to Mumong Sports Complex.
The rubbish container is where Kg
Mumong residents dump their waste for eventual incineration.
Sources revealed that the baby was
found covered with blood indicating that she was delivered on the same
day.
It is a miracle the newborn survived
the ordeal and fortunate to be alive as the rubbish inside the
container is burned daily, the Bulletin was told.
Police are currently investigating
the matter.
Three years ago, another baby wrapped
in a piece of dirty cloth was dumped inside the same rubbish container
and was lucky enough to be found alive.
The baby’s parents were eventually
brought to book. The mother received a fine and the father jailed by
the Bandar Seri Begawan Court.
