CID
personnel nail a suspect in Gadong.
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The mystery abduction of a 34-year-old local woman
lawyer on Tuesday sent shock waves throughout the legal community as
she vanished with four tattooed and knife-wielding men without a trace
overnight.
She was forced into her car at
knifepoint and driven to Gadong where her alleged abductors abandoned
the vehicle.
Police acted swiftly and apprehended
four suspects said to be all foreigners in a matter of 16 hours. The
last suspect was nabbed at Gadong by CID personnel around 8pm last
night.
Lawyer Naz Parveen Rashid, a member
of the legal firm Sandhu & Co with offices at Badiah Complex in Km 2
Jalan Tutong in the Brunei capital, was however found the following
evening at Bukit Panggal in the Tutong District about 50 km away dazed
and bruised.
Her work mates told the Borneo
Bulletin that they discovered her with the help of a woman bomoh.
She suffered facial injuries and cuts
and became unconscious soon after her rescue and while being rushed to
the hospital in Tutong town.
The woman lawyer’s ordeal began soon
after she finished shopping at the First Emporium Department Store
near her office before going to her usual aerobic class after office
on Tuesday at about 5 pm.
She had parked her car at the Badiah
Complex basement car park and was just about to get in with her
shopping bag when the men appeared.
One had a knife pointing at her and
others allegedly forced her into the car.
“It was a horrendous experience,” she
told her uncle after her rescue while being taken to hospital just
before she became unconscious.
Her colleagues who went to search the
mother of two found the car gone but her glasses were discovered at
the car park suggesting that she was probably grabbed and forced into
the car.
Her relatives becoming alarmed also
searched and a police report was lodged.
“We were most worried and spent a
sleepless night,” said lawyer Daljit Singh Sandhu, her senior
colleague.
“When we could not find her in the
evening a staff gave the name of a psychic who said the missing car
could be found in Gadong and sure enough it was there,” said Mr Sandhu.
“There were grease marks all over the
place in the car as apparently a meal had been eaten.
“Someone had loosened the car speaker
wire suggesting that it could have been used for tying up the victim.”
The police was told about the
discovery of the car in Gadong that night.
Meanwhile the law firm began to
assume the aspect of an operational headquarters with lawyers and
their clerks turning detectives.
Mr
Daljit Sandhu directing operations meanwhile got in touch with another
woman bomoh.
“We exerted considerable pressure on
her. She said Naz could be found within three days. We continued to
work hard on the psychic who at last said that the missing person was
near Bukil Panggal in Tutong.
“We formed two search parties and
uncannily enough we found Naz near Bukit Panggal in the evening.”
Meanwhile four persons are expected
to appear before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate’s court shortly.
