Man charged with culpable homicide

A permanent resident, Mustapa bin Abdullah @ Gui Teck Fah, 28, was further remanded in Jerudong Prison by Belait Magistrate Radin Safiee Radin Mas Basiuni. The accused is now charged of culpable homicide not amounting murder to his brother, in addition to an earlier charge.

The court ruled for the case to proceed after receiving a medical doctor's report that the defendant is fit to stand trial.

Police Prosecuting Officer, Police Inspector Pengiran Jainalabidin tendered an additional charge under Section 304(2) of the Penal Code, but no plea was recorded. He also applied for the case to be remitted to the Intermediate Court and the defendant to be remanded in Jerudong Prison.

Mustapa was first charged for causing grievous hurt to Gui Yan Phin @ Mohammad Yassin bin Abdullah using a metal pipe, which was the likely cause of death, on August 2, at about 7.30pm at RSJ 233, NO 114 Kampong Jabang, Jalan Bolkiah, Seria.

Mustapa was also charged for culpable homicide not amounting to murder on August 2, at about 7.30pm at the said place.

Local released on bail of $2,500

A local, Romei bin Abdul Rahman, 25, was released on court bail of $2,500 with one local surety pending the case to be remitted to the High Court by Belait Magistrate Radin Safiee Radin Mas Basiuni. Police Prosecuting Officer, Police Inspector Pengiran Jainalabidin told the court that Romei was charged with causing hurt to Ahmad bin Rajab, 64, by means of a steel rod on February 23, at about 3.30am at Rasau Gate No 1, Kuala Belait.

He was also charged with causing grevious hurt to Abdul Latip bin Puteh, 60, by means of an iron pipe, which was likely the cause of death on the same day.

Police Inspector Pengiran Jainalabidin applied for no plea to be taken and the case to be remitted to the High Court.
