Warm Send-Off For RBAF's
Lebanon-Bound Peacekeepers

Begawan – For the first time ever, the Ministry of Defence
and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) are deploying five RBAF
personnel to participate in a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon under
the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The five
personnel will be embedded with the Malaysian military
forces' peacekeeping mission under the command of the Malcon
West 1 Contingent for nine months. They are scheduled to
depart from Kuala Lumpur on October 25 with the rest of the
Mal con West 1 Contingent.
A ceremony to hand over
Brunei Darussalam's national flag to the RBAF UNIFIL members
took place at the Rimba Air Base yesterday.
Present as the guest of
honor to hand over the flag was the Deputy Minister of
Defence, Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri
Paduka Awg Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar.

Hj Abdullah, received the flag. |
The contingent consists of two
officers and three personnel of other ranks.
They are 514 Major Norhazalan bin
Haji Abdullah; 621 Major Dr Muhammad Hiza Wardy bin Haji Abdul Halim;
9428 Warrant Officer 2 Haji Zulkifli bin Emran; 10870 Staff Sergeant
Abdul Rahim bin Abdul Razak; and 11240 Sergeant Mohd Tony bin Haji
Hashim.
The personnel had undergone a
three-month Force Integration Training in Port Dickson, Malaysia in
preparation for their participation in the peacekeeping force.
The training not only helped to
prepare them to undertake the UN mission in Lebanon but also gave
them the invaluable opportunity to fully integrate with the rest of
Malcon West 1 Contingent members. --
