Ministry Recalls 20 More Melamine-Tainted Products

Bandar Seri Begawan - The list of milk and dairy products from China that are contaminated with melamine, an industrial chemical used in plastic and fertilizer, is getting longer.

Brunei's Ministry of Health yesterday updated the tainted list by recalling 20 more products that are contaminated with melamine and confirmed by the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN), World Health Organization (WHO).

The 20 products are: Mr. Brown 3 in I Coffee made in Taiwan; Mr. Brown Coffee Mandheling flavor, 15 grams x 12 packets made in Taiwan; Kaiser Dressing Pretzel (Strawberry and Choco flavors); Four Seas Cake (Strawberry flavor) made in China; Four Seas Cake (Chocolate flavour) made in China; Sherwood Brand Pirate's Milk Chocolate; Bairong Taro biscuits; Cadbury Chocolairs Coffee flavor; Cadbury Chocolairs Blueberry flavor; Frozen Chocolate Croissants (58

gms) made in China; Frozen, Plain Aux raisins (50 gms) made in China; Frozen Chocolate Croissants (55 gms) made in China; White Rabbit Creamy Candies (Strawberry) made in China; Lotte Koala biscuits (Chocolate) made in China; Lotte Koala biscuits (Chocolate filled) made in China; Frozen Takoyaki made in China; Yili Yoghurt Drink (Strawberry flavor) made in China; Mengnlu Breakfast Milk (Walnut flavor) made in China; and Mengnlu Pure Milk (250 millilitres) made in China.

To ensure that the contaminated products are not sold in the Sultanate, the Ministry of Health through the Quality Control and Food Safety Division, Environmental Health Services and Health Offices at various districts are inspecting and monitoring various shopping establishments in the country.

Importers and retailers have been advised to stop importing the contaminated products and immediately return them back.

The ministry has also sought cooperation from the public to report to the Quality Control and Food Safety Division, Environmental Health Services or any nearby Health Offices at various districts if they come across any of the tainted products being sold in the market.

The ministry also reminded that under Chapter 9 (1) subsection (1.) of the Public Health Act (Foods), (Section 182), anyone who provides, sells or imports food that can harm people's health could be imprisoned for five years, fined or both.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
