Project To Keep Dental Problems At
Bay
By Kasha
Bandar Seri
Begawan - According to the second Asia Dental Care Promotion
for School Children (Year 2003), Brunei Darussalam currently holds
the top position when it comes to having the highest number of
dental problems among school children.

|
Nine out of
10 children aged between five and nine years have dental
problems.
This is a cause for concern
as it can affect a student's learning development,
considering children would not be able to focus on their
studies if they are suffering from a toothache.
This was yesterday
disclosed by Dental Services Department officer Camellia
Abdullah during the Dental Care Pilot project for
Religious/Arabic Schools, which was held at the Pengiran
Anak Puteri Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam Religious School.
Present at the ceremony
were Department of Islamic Studies officers Dr Mohd
Fadzillah Abdullah |
|
and Dr Amalina Hj Kamis,
as well as personnel from Pengiran Anak Puteri Amal Umi
Kalthum Al-Islam Religious School and Bokok Temburong
Religious School. |
The first stage will see five
religious schools involved in the pilot project, which demonstrates
to students the correct method of brushing their teeth and introduce
fluoride toothpaste to reduce dental problems among kids.
The project was organized by the
Department of Islamic Studies, Ministry of Religious Affairs, with
collaboration from the Department of Dental Services, Ministry of
Health.
