MMR2 Jabs For Toddlers
By Sonia K.
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Ministry of Health yesterday informed parents
and guardians that the National Immunization Programmed for the
second dose of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR2) that was previously
given to children aged 12 will now be given to toddlers who are
three years old.

According to a press release from
the ministry, the change was recommended by the World Health
Organization (WHO), which aims to cover 99 per cent of the
children in Brunei Darussalam as early as possible for the
prevention of measles.
The change in the immunization
programmed was rolled out in stages since April 1, 2008.
This means that the second MMR
injection will be given routinely according to appointments made
for all children (at age three years) at health clinics
nationwide.
Children between the ages of
four and 12, meanwhile, will be given the second MMR injection
in stages through the MMR2 "Catch Up" Programmed.
For children between four and
five years old (those who are born between January 1, 2003 and
December 31, 2004), the MMR injection will |

be given in stages. |
Those who have not been informed-
or cannot be contacted by a nearby health clinic will have to
contact a health clinic to make an appointment to get the second MMR
injection.
As for children aged between six
and 12, the second MMR injection will be giving in stages at schools
according to schedule set by the School Health Services in each
district.
The Ministry of Health hopes that
parents, guardians and schools would lend their support in making
this immunization programmed a success, where it is hoped that
measles would be eradicated in Brunei by 2012.
