In Butterfly Lovers
By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Brunie’s very own home-grown superstar Wu Chun will
be appearing on the big screen for the first time tomorrow when the
movie he stars in 'Butterfly Lovers' premiers at The Mall Cineplex
in Gadong.

|
One of the
four members of popular Taiwanese boy band Fahrenheit, Wu
Chun stars alongside Hong Kong's Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin
(also known as `Ah Sa') front Twins, a popular Hong Kong pop
duo.
This is a historic moment
for Brunei as it is the first time a world-class movie sees
a Bruneian celebrity. Butterfly Lovers is a HK$20 million
movie production.
To mark the momentous
occasion, every dollar collected for the movie will be
donated to SMARTER Brunei courtesy of The Mall Cinema.
Butterfly Lovers is based
on a famous legendary |
|
Chinese love story of
Liang San Por and Zhu Ing Tai, which will be played by
Wu Chun and Charlene Choi respectively. |
Adding a twist to the flick, the
story unfolds with them finding each other in the world of martial
arts.
Liang
is a highly-skilled martial artist who resides in the mountains. He
is ordered by his master to take care of Zhu, a girl from a wealthy
family who disguises as a man to flee from danger.
The movie is directed by Ma Chor
Shing, whose work is well known in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and
Southeast Asia. His signature creation includes 'City of the Glass,'
`Summer Holiday,' ‘Para Para Sakura,’ ‘Silver Hawk,’ and ‘Good Bye
Mr. Cool’.
During the making of the movie,
Martial Arts Director Cheng Siew Tung commended Wu Chun's commitment
and professionalism for executing most of the action scenes himself.
Mr. Cheng was even brave enough to predict Wu -Chun becoming the
next action-movie star.
Director Ma also heaped praises on
Wu Chun's ever willing-to-learn attitude, while co-star Charlene
spoke fondly of his friendliness and diligence.
Wu Chun became a household name
after landing a spot in the Taiwanese group Fahrenheit three years
ago and he has since made headway, appearing in numerous TV sitcoms
in Taiwan.
Now it appears his handwork and
efforts have paid off as he secured the lead role in Butterfly
Lovers.
Movie-goers and fans will be
eligible to attend the 'Meet the Fans' session (to be held at a
later date) by keeping their movie tickets. Wu Chun will be
returning to Brunei for the promotional activities of Butterfly
Lovers, and the organizer is also hoping to have the presence of
Charlene Choi and Director Ma Chor Shing in Brunei.
Wu Chun is no stranger to Brunei as
he is the founder of Fitness Zone Gymnasium at The Mall and in
Kiulap.
Recently he won the most promising
young entrepreneur award in Bandar Seri Begawan. GreenCity Concept
SDN BHD has been appointed as event manager for this charitable
movie event. --
