Apple To Block Unlocked Iphone
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Iphone owners who have unlocked their handsets so
that they could be used outside the US and Europe, may end up with
inoperable phones instead.
Apple Inc warned that users who
have unlocked the revolutionary phone might end up with a phone that
does not work after the company's next software update.
Since its launch in June, the
iPhone can only be used in the US and Europe and because of that,
hackers have presented various methods in order to use the iPhone
outside the US and Europe, most of which is online.
Apple executives said they have
discovered that many of those unauthorised programs can cause damage
to some software found in the iPhone.
A software update that will add
features such as accessibility to the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store may
end up making the phone inoperable.
"This has nothing to do with
proactively disabling a phone that is unlocked or hacked," said Phil
Schiller, Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product
Marketing.
He also said that it was
unfortunate that some of these programs have caused damage to the
software, but stated that, "Apple cannot be responsible for those
consequences". -- Courtesy of Borneo
