Set Up Signboards To Warn Drivers
By Hussin HJ
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The tragic loss of human life due to road accidents
in the Sultanate is a combination of human negligence, bad road
conditions and weather.
The horrific fatal accident reported
in the Bulletin yesterday invokes painful memories of a similar
accident that occurred several months ago when an elderly man
succumbed to his injuries after the vehicle he was driving collided
with another car causing it to flip over and land on its side.
The accident happened just a few
metres away from yesterday's accident.
The recent accident prompts questions
as to what actions must be taken by respective agencies to bring down
the grim fatality figures on Brunei roads.
While weather conditions cannot be
blamed for all road accidents, slippery roads do contribute to
accidents, especially if road users are not vigilant.
Members of the public urged concerned
parties to take remedial actions such as setting up signboards warning
road users to reduce their speed when approaching accident-prone
areas. They also called for an increase in inspection and maintenance
of road surfaces to ensure they are free of patches or bumps, which
could compromise driving conditions. -- Courtesy of Borneo
