30 Accidents In Three Days

Begawan - A total of 30 accidents were recorded during the last
three days of the Hari Raya festivities. Police have advised motorists
to be extra careful while behind the wheel especially during the
current wet spell.
Brunei-Muara District recorded the
highest number of accidents with 20 cases reported in the district
alone.
Four accidents were reported in
Belait and five in Tutong, while Temburong District recorded only one
accident during the three-day period.
A 25-year-old local woman was the
latest victim when she died in an accident during a downpour along the
Tutong highway on Sunday afternoon. She was the lone passenger in a
car driven by a 24-year-old local man. They were on their way to the
capital when the accident occurred.
Meanwhile, police also warned the
public to be wary of opportunistic thieves who prey on children
wearing jewellery, particularly at shopping outlets. The reminder came
after an incident involving a child whose jewelleiy was snatched when
she was left alone while her mother was shopping.
Police also recorded two car
break-ins and thefts, while four cars were reported missing. Five
houses located in Kg Kiarong, Kg Terunjing, Jalan Muara and Sungai
Liang were broken into, while a shop along Jalan Pemancha in the
capital was also broken into.
Among items reported stolen in the
break-ins were fireworks, 'Ayeng AsahAsahan' or scented water to be
sprinkled on tombs, two bicycles and a boat engine.
Another eight thefts were recorded
inside buildings leading to the loss of 30metre and 15-metre cables,
cash amounting to $2,445, 20 fuses, a necklace, a laptop and two wrist
watches.
The thefts occurred at Kg Bukit
Panggal power station, Kg Sinarubai, two departmental stores in Lambak
and Kg Sungai Tilong, Centrepoint in Gadong, Jalan Ong Sum Ping and
Jalan Kumbang Pasang.
Police also recorded one fraud case,
six vandalism cases, three assault cases, one case of extortion and
two rape cases.
Two men were arrested in connection
with this crime and they are facing up to 30 years' jail and several
strokes of the cane. Police also detected one misuse of drug case and
