Young Woman Dies In Accident

Bandar Seri Begawan - A horrifying road accident along the Tutong Highway claimed the life of a 25-year-old local woman yesterday afternoon. The accident, which happened around 2.30pm, caused a massive traffic j am along the stretch of the highway.

Four police personnel from the Sengkurong Police Station together with a rescue vehicle from the Fire and Rescue Depaitinent with 10 personnel-led by DSO Zamani, as well as some medical personnel quickly rushed to the scene shortly after receiving the emergency call from members of the public.

The woman was the lone passenger of the car driven by a 24-year-old local man and were heading to the capital. The vehicle hit a central road barrier and as result of the impact, the metal barrier had pierced through the car. Both victims were said-to be unconscious when medical help arrived. Several members of the public who were at the scene managed to pull the victims out of the car. They were quickly rushed to the hospital.

Both the accident victims reportedly suffered massive injuries. Medical reports stated that the woman died at the hospital. around 5pm due to injuries to her head and waist. The man, meanwhile, is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit. He is also said to have suffered injuries to his waist.

The area where the accident happened is quite accident prone. Two days ago it was reported in the media that the road surface was uneven with potholes covered with rainwater. Yesterday's accident happened when it was raining.

Earlier, another accident was also reported along the highway near Kg Bukit Beruang involving two saloon cars. One of the cars reportedly tried to make a sudden U-turn. The police said no injuries were reported and the cars suffered minor damages.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
