HM Remembers Parents

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty Sultan, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izaddin Waddaulah the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday paid his respects to his late parents at the Royal Mausoleum on Jalan Kubah Makam Di Raja.

More than 1,000 people braved the rain to join His Majesty in honouring his late parents, Al Marhum Sultan Haji Omai 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien and Al Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit.

The royal entourage was greeted upon arrival by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Jawatan Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Utama Dr Ustaz Awang Mohd Zain Serudin.

His Majesty was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah. His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen were also present to pay their respects at the bertahlil ceremony, which was led by the State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Abdul Aziz Tuned.

Prior to the bertahlil, Pehin Dato Seri Utama Dr Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri led the royal proceeding that was attended by Cheterias, cabinet ministers and other senior state officials.

After the completion of the religious ceremony, a doa tahlil invocation was read by the State Mufti. His Majesty, along with the royal entourage, then proceeded to pour the air asah-asahan or scented water onto the tombs of His Majesty's late father, the 27th ruler of Brunei Darussalam who passed away on September 7, 1986, and His Majesty's late mother, who passed away on September 13, 1979. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
