Princess Attends Women's Forum

Begawan - Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, the
arnbassadorat-large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, left
the country yesterday afternoon to attend the first China-Asean
women's forum that will be held on the sidelines of the third China-Asean
summit, scheduled for October 31 in south China's Nanning City.
The forum, the first of its kind
between China and the ten Asean members, will last two days in the
capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with an aim to promote
friendship and cooperation among women's institutions and
organisations of Asean and China.
The two-day forum with the theme
"Strengthening Women's Cooperation, Promoting Common Development", is
held in conjunction with the 15th anniversary of the establishment of
the Asean-China dialogue relations marked with the 'Year of Friendly
Cooperation' between the two.
The federation's president, Gu
Xiulian, also a senior Chinese legislator and president of the
China-ASEAN Association, will attend the forum and give a speech.
HRH Princess Masna, attending the
forum as guest of honour, was accompanied by her husband, Yang Amat
Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul
Aziz.
Regional ministers in charge of
women's affairs, heads of women's organisation and women's
entrepreneurs from the ten countries are also expected to attend the
forum.
The forum is expected to pass a
declaration to outline the cooperation between women in China and the
Asean nations on various fields, including economic, social and
cultural development.
It is also expected to help develop
economic and social opportunities for the 637,510,130 women in China
and 291,856,448 in Asean.
The Asean Vision 2020 envisages a
region bonded together in partnership as a community of caring
societies to foster cooperation in social development aimed at
improving the standard of living of disadvantaged groups and the rural
population, and seeking active involvement of all sectors of society,
particularly women, youth, and local communities.
