Bandar Seri Begawan - Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, the arnbassadorat-large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, left the country yesterday afternoon to attend the first China-Asean women's forum that will be held on the sidelines of the third China-Asean summit, scheduled for October 31 in south China's Nanning City.

The forum, the first of its kind between China and the ten Asean members, will last two days in the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with an aim to promote friendship and cooperation among women's institutions and organisations of Asean and China.

The two-day forum with the theme "Strengthening Women's Cooperation, Promoting Common Development", is held in conjunction with the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Asean-China dialogue relations marked with the 'Year of Friendly Cooperation' between the two.

The federation's president, Gu Xiulian, also a senior Chinese legislator and president of the China-ASEAN Association, will attend the forum and give a speech.

HRH Princess Masna, attending the forum as guest of honour, was accompanied by her husband, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz.

Regional ministers in charge of women's affairs, heads of women's organisation and women's entrepreneurs from the ten countries are also expected to attend the forum.

The forum is expected to pass a declaration to outline the cooperation between women in China and the Asean nations on various fields, including economic, social and cultural development.

It is also expected to help develop economic and social opportunities for the 637,510,130 women in China and 291,856,448 in Asean.

The Asean Vision 2020 envisages a region bonded together in partnership as a community of caring societies to foster cooperation in social development aimed at improving the standard of living of disadvantaged groups and the rural population, and seeking active involvement of all sectors of society, particularly women, youth, and local communities. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
