Bandar Seri
Begawan - On the fifth day of Hari Raya Aifil Fitri, many
Muslims hosted joyful open houses for their relatives and friends
before classes reopen tomorrow.
Visitors of all races came at a
specified time and stayed until the open house hours ended for the
day. From the outside the gates of the houses, guests were met by the
smell of cooking emanating from the open windows of the kitchen.
Open house aimed at strengthening
ties among families and within the Muslim community and reinforces
solidarity with non-Muslim friends in this multi-racial society.
Visitors were treated to a
multi-variety of food including rice, curry, satay, ketupat and
vegetables.
The high number of open-house events
being hosted this Hari Raya demonstrates the economic well-being of
the people. Hari Raya enabled Bruneians to show the world the close
inter-racial relations in this peaceful and harmonious country.
"The success achieved by the country
so far is due to the unity and sense of belonging among all races,
which have been practised from generation to generation as part of the
Bruneian culture and custom," observers said.
These aspects have given stability
and peace to the country, enabling it to focus on the people's
socio-economic development, they said.
"Hence, Bruneians should strive to
improve their relations regardless of their ethnic origin or
religion." "They should also work hard to bridge the economic divide
amongst themselves," they said. "People should also be thankful for
being able to celebrate Hari Raya in peace and harmony." -- Courtesy of Borneo
