Catching Litterbugs Through The
Lens
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The back of a building at a commercial area on
Simpang 508, Jalan Jerudong is no longer a rubbish dump thanks to a
warning that a camera has been installed to record litterbugs in
action.
It used to be a dumping ground until
recently when it was cleared after the warning was put into place.
Building owners and tenants are happy
at the latest development and hope the camera will catch the culprits
if ever they throw their rubbish there again. Nearby restaurant
operators are more than happy to see the area has been cleared of
garbage as the foul smell has gone away.
Gone too are the flies, birds, rats,
dogs and cats which scavenged the rubbish to look for leftover food.
Meanwhile, observers said warnings
and CCTVs should also be installed at other areas which have been
turned into dumping ground by litterbugs.
"Areas like compound of Perpindahan
Lambak Kanan Mosque should benefit by such move. "Apart from catching
errant litterbugs, the culprits should also be fined," they said.
