Landscape Artistes In A Knot Over
Collecting Dues
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Grass cutters are lamenting over the difficulty they
are faced with whets it comes to collecting their dues from certain
homeowners.
They say that when the job is
completed, the homeowners pull off disappearing acts or cough up
excuses.
"The occupants would request us to
trim their compounds. When we seek payment after the job is done, they
would ask us to come back the next day, saying they have not yet
withdrawn cash from the bank."
"However, when we returned the next
day, no one was there to answer the door."
"Sometimes, the maid would answer the
door and inform us that her employer was out."
"Time is of the essence to us. We
have to move elsewhere to offer our services. We cannot afford to wait
for the owners to return home," they lamented. "We need the money to
feed ourselves and our families."
They, however, stressed that not all
homeowners are guilty of such acts. "It happens at a rate of one in
10," they said, adding that they normally charge between $15 to $25 to
trim the garden within the compound of a house. -- Courtesy of Borneo
