Haj Fares, Pocket Money For 32 New
Converts
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam has consented to award haj fares to some 32 new converts in
the country to enable them to perform the haj this year.
The award demonstrates the concern of
His Majesty towards the new converts, whilst at the same time
enhancing the new converts' Islamic assimilation firmly, not only in
their beliefs but also in their true faith towards Allah.
It is also aimed towards fulfilling
the fifth pillar of Islam, which is performing haj in the holy city of
Mecca. The travel fares awarded cost B$3,500 each (based on the rate
given to government official). Meanwhile another $4,000 from the tithe
collection was awarded toeach of the new converts category.
The total amount of $7,500 would
cover the Economy `A' haj package fare at Darussalam Holdings.
In addition, $1,500 in pocket money
was also given to each new convert. The money also came from the tithe
collection for the new converts category. In total, some B$128,000 was
handed over yesterday by the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs,
Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin as
Vice President of Islamic Religious Council, to the Acting Managing
Director of Darussalam Holdings, Awg Hj Mahmud bin Hj Mohammad. -- Courtesy of Borneo
