Open Invite For Investors
By Alex How in Nanning China

Nanning - Brunei's Ministry of industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) is inviting all investors from China and other Asean member countries to the Tourism in Brunei' and 'Business and Investment Opportunities in Brunei seminars, which will be held during the 3rd China-Asean Expo (CAExpo) on Nov 1 at 2:30pm.

Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Hamid bin Mohd Jaafar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, opened up the invitation during a press conference held in Aingyuan Xindu hotel, Manning, China yesterday morning.

In the press conference, Dam Paduka Mohd Hamid highlighted six main business investment opportunities and announced Brunei's participation in the upcoming 3rd CAExpo in Nanning City from October 3 to November 3.

One of the business opportunities that investors may look into in Brunei is the B$150-billion global Halal market that the China food manufacturers may take a share in through the Brunei Premium Halal brand.

The CAExpo has played an important role in linking and promoting both trade and investment opportunities between Brunei and China. The number of Brunei delegates has also been encouraging, Dato Paduka Hi Mohd Hamid said.

"This year, the total participation has increased to 167 from six in the first year and 98 in the second year," Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Hamid said, adding that he intends to introduce more products from Brunei in coming years.

The delegates have not only come from the government sector - 126 of the delegates are from the Business and Economic Delegation. Leading the group are the Brunei-China Friendship Association and the Brunei National Chamber of Commerce, which is made up of two prominent Brunei groups - Brunei Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Brunei Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Brunei business delegates play an important role in exploring and linking business opportunities and cooperation not only with China but also the Asean member countries.

Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Hamid also welcomed the visitors to the Brunei Pavilion at the Nanning International Exhibition and Convention Centre during the 31 CAExpo.

Well reputed for its natural heritage and rainforest activities, Brunei will this year aim to give the visitors a new view on Brunei's unexpected treasures.

The theme of the Brunei Pavilion this year is `Discover the Blue Side of Brunei Darussalam' where Brunei will showcase the artefacts from 17th Century Chinese pottery found in Brunei waters.

In addition, the pavilion will also highlight places of interest in Brunei, with the focus on water related activities such as diving, sea adventure and excursions.

The press conference ended with a Q&A session.

Also present were Robert Koh Hoe Kiat, President of Brunei Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dr Hj Kamaruddin, President of Brunei-China Friendship Association, Momin Sawal, Head of Promotion and Facilitation Services cum Vice-Secretary General of China Asean Expo, Ang Swee Chuan, Vice President of Brunei-China Friendship Association, Hj Mohammed Said, Trade Secretary of Malay Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Abdurrahman Abdul Aziz from Brunei Economic Development Board and Mariani Hj Sabtu, Brunei Liaison Officer for China-Asean Expo. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
