LTD won't be privatised as whole
By James Kon
The Ministry of Communications and
Land Transport Department regrets to inform the public that the recent
report regarding the privatisation of the Land Transport Department by
2010 was inaccurate and, thus, wishes to clarify the matter.
The Ministry of Communications and
Land Transport Department have intentions to corporatise its services
in the long term for the departments under the Ministry of
Communications Roadmap 20 year plan.
All plans towards this are still in
the planning stages and not as immediate as stated. The Department of
Land Transport as a whole will not be privatised.
In a press statement, Acting
Permanent Secretary of Communications Pg Hj Mohd Yakub bin Pg Hj
Othman stated that the Ministry of Communications wishes to thank the
public for the concern expressed in the mass media recently regarding
the privatisation of the Land Transport Department.
The Ministry of Communications has
prepared its objective in establishing a transport and communications
industry that is always sustainable, vibrant, efficient and
progressive, that can contribute to the GDSP at 10.2% by year 2024 as
compared to 4.2% in year 2003.
To realise this objective, various
programs - specifically corporatising the services offered by the
departments under the ministry - have been planned.
The time frame for corporatising and
privatising the services of the department is before year 2010.
The objectives of corporatisation
among others are to improve the services provided to the people.
Simultaneously, it also aims at
improving the quality, reliability, competitiveness and varieties of
services, which are safe and satisfactory.
