Baiduri's Colourful Festival Of Lights Celebration
By James Kon

Bandar Seri Begawan - Baiduri Bank Group yesterday hosted a sumptuous dinner for its Indians customers and business associates to commemorate Deepavali, the Festival of Light.

Over 200 guests turned up at the Empire Hotel & Country Club to celebrate the festival at the Indera Kayangan Ballroom.

Present as guest of honour was Acting High Commissioner of Indian Mahi Pal Singh.

Prominent business leaders, merchants, corporate and prestige clients of Baiduri Bank made up part of the guest list.

To mark the auspicious occasion, Mahi Pal Singh, Baiduri Bank General Manager Pierre Imhof, Deputy General Manager Raymond Bariou and BSB Indian Association President Dr P S Sugathan lit the candles in the traditional lighting of the Diyas ceremony.

"It gives us great pleasure to host this Deepavali dinner for our Indian customers and friends. I have been told that Deepavali symbolises the conquest of light over darkness and the oneness of all mankind," said Pierre Imhof

"The Deepavali message encourages us to learn about and participate in each other's culture. In our quest to be the preferred financial partner, we value this opportunity to come together and celebrate with our Indian friends," he added.

The dinner also saw Baiduri Bank Group donating $1,000 to the BSB Indian Association, in support of its activities. The mock cheque was presented by Pierre Imhof to Dr P S Sugathan.

The donation demonstrates the bank's steadfast commitment in fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by contributing towards the work of different ethnic communities, charities and cultural societies here in Brunei Darussalam.

The guests were later treated to colourful Indian dances by the BSB Indian Association. In addition, a live rendition of songs were performed by Dr Davis and his daughter Sruthi Davis.

The evening was livened up with songs, dances and games hosted by Sundararajan Padmanabhan, Devi Priyamuata Murugesan, Sai Prashanth Subash and Visawanathan Chinnaswamy, all four of whom are TV personalities and entertainers from Chennai, India. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
