Barbershops, Carwash Services Busy
Right Up To Aidilfitri
By Achong Tanjong
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Most Indian barbershops around the Sultanate are
having brisk business as many customers, especially men, rush to have
their hair cut yesterday in time for the Hari RayaAidilfitri
celebration.
Barbershops are normally busy and
profitable around this time as people want new hairstyles for the
festivities. One such shop in Muara opened until late at night due to
high demand and parents also brought along their children.
"We charge our customers the same
rate as on normal days," said Mohd Raub, who has been working in the
Sultanate for almost a,decade now as a barber. "Just name any style
and I can do it," he added.
Bold young people seem to favour the
spike or army-style haircut this year. In addition, massages are also
being offered. The price of a haircut and shave for men is $4 and it
is $2 for children's haircuts.
A full-body massage costs $12 and a
half-body massage costs $6. Mohd Raub said that the massages are
usually requested by older men. He also revealed that he gets more
than 20 customers a day during this period.
It only take him about 20 minutes to
half an hour for a haircut and he has two other Indian assistants to
help at his shop. Meanwhile, carwash services were also benefiting
greatly from the festivities as customers queue up to have their
vehicles thoroughly cleaned and polished.
It costs $3 to clean only the outside
of a car and an additional $3 to have the interiors cleaned, too.
