Open House Promotes Local Culture
By Achong Tanjong

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Dato Dr Hj Mohd Zain Hj Serudin, welcomed large crowds of well wishers at his official residence in Kg Beribi on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilftri.

It was not just the Malays who wished 'Selamat Hari Raya' to the Minister of Religious Affairs and his family. Non-Muslims including the Chinese community and other races also dropped by the residence of Pehin Dr Hj Mohd Zain too.

Officials from the Islamic Dakwah Centre, Ministry of Religious Affairs were also present.

The president of the Overseas Chinese Taipei Association, Mr Lim Tiong Tin, and other friends also paid a visit to the Minister of Religious Affairs.

Mr Lim and his friends also visited the residence of: Pehin Dato Awg Hj Abd Hafiz in Kg Kiarong; Former District Officer Dato Hj Kassim at Kg Sengkurong, who is also the association's adviser; and Pehin Hj Mohd Yusof in Jalan Berakas.

Visiting open houses helps promote goodwill among the many races in the Sultanate as it gives people the opportunity to foster ties between one another.

Tourists visiting Brunei during the festive season are in for a treat as they can get a firsthand look at the warm and friendly hospitality of the local people. Several travel agents have brought tourists to the residence of their colleagues who are celebrating Raya.

This is one way to promote the traditional culture of Brunei, where people would make visits to friends and relatives during the Aidilfitri festivities, a travel agent said.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
