Brunei Celebrates Hari Raya

Bandar Seri Begawan – Brunei celebrated Hari Raya Aidil Fitri with the Sunat Aidil Fitri prayer commencing at 7.30am.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei, joined his rakyat in performing the sunat Aidil Fitri prayer at the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan in the capital.

His Majesty was greeted upon arrival by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Dato Dr Ustaz Haji Awang Mohamad Zain, who is also the chairman of the executive committee of important events in Islamic calendar and other committee members.

Also joining in the Aidil Fitri prayer were HRH Prince Haji AlMuhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, HRH Prince Mohammad Bolkiah, HRH Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, HRH Prince Abdul Malik and HRH Prince Abdul Mateen.

Pehin Datu Imam Dato Ustaz Haji Abdul Hamid Bin Bakal led the congregation in performing the prayer.

The sermon was delivered by Pehin Dato Ustaz Haji Awang Yahya Bin Haji Ibrahim.

The sermon touched on nationhood. It said after achieving our full sovereignty for the last twenty years, the people ought to understand that the nation building will not be complete by attaining only material development, making money and other infra-structure development.

They should also possess the spirit to develop.

They should also be sincere and willing to continue to serve with love to the nation.

The sermon added, the nation's Malay Muslim monarchy concept, will not be achieved effectively in nation building towards prosperity and happiness, without possessing such attitude, without strong minds and soul, sincerity and preparedness to realise the concept.  -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
