Smarter Members Treated To Sungkai Dinner

Bandar Seri Begawan - Orchid Garden Hotel hosted a sungkai dinner for the Society for the Management of Autism Related Issues in Training, Education and Resources (Smarter) at its Vanda Chinese Restaurant in Berakas recently.

Over 100 people, including Smarter members and Orchid Garden Hotel management, attended the event. The event began with a recital of Al-Fatihah and Doa before -a welcoming speech was delivered by Orchid Garden Hotel general manager Mac Thomson, who lauded Smarter for their continuous efforts to assist autistic individuals and their families.

Meanwhile, Smarter chief executive officer Hj Malai Abdullah bin Hj Malai Othman said, "I am personally touched by your graceful gesture because up until today, this hotel is the only establishment that has invited us, the parents, to any gathering."

Following a sungkai dinner, a handover of sponsored items to Smarter was held.

Among the companies that made donations were: TLT Enterprise with goodie bags filled with instant full cream milk, food container, colour pens, and bottled water; Grow-Tee Marketing Enterprise with two $300 cheques from Mothercare and Bebeland; Delcol Water with 10 cartons of Delcol bottled water; and GoodMiles Sdn Bhd with a toaster and an iron.

Later, Hj Malai Abdullah presented a painting by Smarter member Awg.Muinuddin bin Hj Marzuki to Orchird Garden Hotel's event chairperson Datin Hjh Masnha Hj Tuah and certificates of appreciation to the contributors.

Smarter centres are currently faced with financial difficulties, as running the two centres cost over $14,000 a month.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
