Ceremony Held While Moon Sighting For Syawal

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Ministry of Religious Affairs held a ceremony at its building to wait for the result of the moon sighting of the lunar crescent for the new month of Syawal, which dictates the fall of Hari Raya in Brunei.

Present at the ceremony were the Minister of the Religious Affairs Pehin Jawatan Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Utama Dr Hj Mohd Zain Hj Serudin and Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Badaruddin Pangarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman.

Also present were the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Dato Paduka Hj Abd Rahman Hj Mohiddin and the Deputy Permanent Secretary Dato Paduka Hj Ishaaq Hj Abdullah. Deputy State Mufti Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Suhaili Mohiddin' and senior officers at the Ministry of Religious Affairs also attended the ceremony.

It began with a recital of the Quran by hlj Rosli Hj Batang from the Department of Islamic Studies, followed with the Tausyeh and Selawat brought by teachers from the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Tahfiz, followed by a recital of the Doa Selamat by Pg Hj Haslinan Pg Hj Ali from the Department of Mosques Affairs.

The ceremony continued with a Sungkai/Berbuka Puasa (breaking of fast) and mass Maghrib prayer. Brunei will celebrate this year's Raya beginning Tuesday after the month-long fasting.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
