Brunei Scouts Participate In
Jamboree On-Line
By P Marilyn
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Members of the Persekutuan Pengakap Negara Brunei
Darussalam (PPNBD) yesterday joined Scouts worldwide for the 10th
Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) and the 49th Jamboree on the Air
(JOTA).
This is the first time PPNBD members
participated in JOTI, which is organised by the World Scout Bureau,
allowing scout members to communicate with each other.
Guest of honour at the function,
Skipper Matassim bin Duraman, who is the Deputy Chief National
Commissioner of PPNBD/International Commissioner, launched the event
by starting the voice messenger with the Chairman of the Scout Asia
Pacific Regional, Mr Eric Khoo, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
JOTI
is an international Scout meeting which takes place every year on the
third weekend of October. This is an official event of the World
Organisation of the Scout Movement. Thousands of scouts from all over
the world meet and communicate with each other through the Internet.
At the same time, Scout groups are
able to combine this event with JOTA, where scouts can communicate
with each other by means of amateur radio.
The aim of the Jamboree is to allow
scout members to exchange scouting experience and ideas, thus
contributing to the world brotherhood of Scouting. -- Courtesy of Borneo
