Raya Gifts For Orphans

Bandar Seri Begawan - Orphans, single mothers and fire victims in the Belait District received their Hari Raya gifts last Friday from the NDP Women Assembly (HAWANDP).

The group identified 15 single mothers to receive clothes, cakes and cookies.

The family of Haji Wahab bin Junaidi wife whose house in Kampong Badas, Seria was gutted by fire recently received clothes, food, Hari Raya cakes, biscuits and cookies.

Ten orphans received Raya money: for clothes and shoes. The gifts were presented by the head of HAWANDP Hajah Saemah Haji Kefli, fief deputy, Halimah bte Janai, head of Lorong 3 Seria subdivision Haji Mohd Ali Haji Mohd Yusof and head of Seria Subdivision Ali'bin Bakar.

"The fire victims are facing a bleak Hari Raya after losing their house to fire while the single mothers also lost their husbands who died earlier where they have to raise their children single-handed.' The gifts may help them a little to lighten their burden in the coming Raya festivity," said Hajah Saemah.

She said similar activities would be held in Lamunin, Tutong, Kg Salambigar in Brunei Muara District and Temburong to help lessen the burden of the unfortunate and impoverished people. The group trimmed grasses and collected rubbish at gravesites. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
