Rush Begins As Hari Raya Draws Closer
By Sonia K, Za'im Zaini & Suria Rina PHA

Bandar Seri Begawan - With just days to go before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, celebrants are making a final dash to complete all unfinished business in time for the festivities.

Queues at ATMs throughout the Sultanate were unbelievably long as government servants yesterday received their salaries. At certain areas, people were even seen waiting in queue despite the rain.

With cash in hand, celebrants made their way to shopping areas in Gadong, Kiulap and the capital, to snap up the necessary Hari Raya items.

The scene was equally hectic at the Electricity Services Department and post offices, as homeowners rushed to get their hands on top-up prepaid cards for their electricity.

According to Electrical Services Department Head Counter Finance Officer Alias bin Hj Mohd Ali, the working hours was extended to 3 pro to allow homeowners a chance to make payment at the counters.

Long queues were also seen at petrol stations. Meanwhile, thousands of celebrants flocked to The Mall in Gadong yesterday to take advantage of the bargains offered at the Expo Raya 2006.

The expo makes available a wide variety of goods that include biscuits, cakes, clothes, carpets, house decoration and jewelleries.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
