Damaged Cables Cause Blackout In 3 Kampongs

Bandar Seri Begawan - Three villages in Berakas area experienced a blackout for little more than 12 hours yesterday.

The reason given by the Electrical Services Department was damaged underground cables linking Berakas Telecom Electrical substation to Burong Pingai Berakas Mosque substation.

The damage caused blackouts in Kampong Jaya Setia Berakas, Kampong Jaya Bakti Berakas and Kampong Burong electrical Pingai Berakas since around 22 am early yesterday morning.

The Electrical Department said the damage to the underground cable had caused a disturbance in electrical supply to four small substations delivering 11,000 volts to users in areas stated above.

The department worked to rectify the matter and electrical supply was re-established before 4pm yesterday.

In a press statement, the Department apologised for any inconveniences caused to the residents in the affected villages. The area was affected by power cuts a few times before, and yesterday's blackout was said to be the longest.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
