Brunei Looks For Own Halal Standard
By Za'im Zaini & Azrol Azmi

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei is planning to have its own standards for Halal foods, dispelling confusion and doubts about foodstuff Muslims here can consume.

Pehin Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Ahmad bin Hj Jumat, the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources announced that there were plans in the pipeline to establish a committee involving the private sector.

He urged local entrepreneurs to work together with the MIPR on the Brunei Halal Premium Brand to make it a successful project that would help elevate Brunei Darussalam to be among the big players of the Halal brand.

This observation was made by the Pehin Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Awg Ahmad during a briefing on the business potential and opportunities in developing the Brunei Premium Halal Brand, yesterday at the Setia Pahlawan Hall, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources Building.

The project of developing a Brunei Premium Halal Brand is among the initiatives by the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources with the cooperation of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Health. This project will give the nation the Halal recognition service for domestic and exported products that have a premium value. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
