Banks are already with the cash and
the supermarkets and department stores are ready to meet the
avalanche. Everyone including the pensioners and daily paid will
get their pay ahead of month end, banks said.
Time is money or 'rather money is
time for many locals as there is only the weekend left, to prepare
for Brunei's biggest celebration.
For some it is too late to do
shopping in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur or London.
Therefore horrendous jams are
expected at the border points leading to Limbang, and Miri, Labuan
and further Kota Kinabalu could become the frenzied last minute
shopping points for the festive happy Bruneians.
However Bruneians also have begun
to be wiser in their purchases. "They do not simply walk into
shops and buy everything on sight anymore. They have become more
discriminating and increasingly price conscious," said a local
supermarket source.
Furniture and other major shops
also have to display their very best as most Bruneians do not
change their living room sets every year any more. |
