Ties With Angola, Moldova

Begawan - The Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has expanded its diplomatic sphere
with the establishment of formal diplomatic relations with the
Republics of Angola and Moldova.
Envoys from the three countries
signed the Joint Communique at the Office of the Permanent Mission of
Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations in New York.
Signing on behalf of the Government
of Brunei was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of
Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations, Ernran Bahar.
The Angolan Government was
represented by its Permanent Representative, Ismael Abraao Gaspar
Martins, while the Repulic of Moldova was represented by its Permanent
Representative, Alexey Tulbure.
Angola, which gained independence
from Portugal in 1975, is situated in south-central Africa, bordering
Namibia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Zambia.
Angola's population of 14.5 million
is predominantly Christian, with Islam also becoming increasingly
significant in the country.
One of the largest oilproducing
countries in Africa, Angola's economy is experiencing rapid growth as
a result of rising, oil production. Last year, the economy grew by 18
per cent, and it is expected to hit 26 per cent by the end of the
year.
Moldova is in eastern Europe,
landlocked between Romania to the west and Ukraine to the east and
south. A former Soviet republic, Moldova gained independence in 1991.
Its population of more than three million is predominantly Christian.
