Tithe For Muslim Converts, Poor

Bandar Seri Begawan - A ceremony was yesterday held at the Belait Religious Office to present financial contributions to the poor as well as Muslim converts in the Belait District.

The contributions - which are from the $10 million tithe collection this year - were awarded to 3,477 poor individuals and 713 converts.

Under the Asnaf Fakir Miskin group, the head of the family receives $200 and dependents receive $50 each. And through bank accounts, each family head receives $100, while each dependant is given $30

In the Belait District, there are 837 family heads and 2,640 dependents under the Asnaf Fakir Miskin group.

Meanwhile, $200,460 was distributed to Muslim converts (Muallaf) in the district.

The sum accounts for 545 family heads and 168 dependants, where $300 is presented to the family head, and $220 is given to each dependent.

On hand to present the tithe contribution was Belait District Chief Religious Officer Pengiran Haji Yunus bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Salleh.

Both the Fakir Miskin and Muallaf groups will continuously receive attention from the Islamic Religious Council and their status will be updated from time by. time, said the chief religious officer. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
