Rotary Club Donates Books
By Achong Tanjong

Bandar Seri Begawan - Chung Hwa Middle School in the capital yesterday received 6,000 Chinese books from the Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan.

The books were handed over by the Club's Community Service Director, Rotarian Ricky Ng Kim Hock, to school principal Mdm Kho Guik Lan at the library hall.

The donation is part of the club's on - going Literary Project to promote good reading habits among young children in schools.

Earlier, in a joint effort with Rotary Club of Belait, the club had also donated large numbers of similar books to four schools in the Belait district.

The recipient schools are Chung Hwa Middle School Kuala Belait, Chung Ching Middle School in Seria, and Chinese primary schools in Sg. Liang and Labi.

The club said it would continue to give similar books to Chung Hwa School in Tutong and the Pei Yuk Primary School in Temburong district.

The club is also planning to hand over similar books to Chung Hwa School in the Limbang district. The books are only given to Chinese schools because the books are written in Chinese, the club said.

Rotarian Ricky Ng Kim Hock said the club is very active in Education Assistance and Literacy Projects under its Community Service Avenue.

He said the club has been working very closely with schools particularly in Bandar Seri Begawan, in providing assistance, recognitions and encouragements to students and teachers and providing leadership training for selected students.

Present at the handing over ceremony yesterday were club Vice President Low Eng Leng, International Service Director Jeffrey Yong and Dackson Yap.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
