Drop In HFMD Cases Says Health
Ministry
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Ministry of Health yesterday gave an update on
the Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) situation in the country by
revealing a decline in cases reported in October compared to in mid
September (where 142 cases were reported). From Oct 1-15,'72 cases
were reported where the majority (87.5 per cent) were treated at the
outpatient department and have fully-recovered. Another 12.5 per cent
received ward treatment.
Despite the decline in HFMD cases,
the public is reminded to continuously take preventive measures and to
give cooperation to-the Ministry of Health and other government
agencies in preventing the spread of HFMD.
The measures include maintaining
self-cleanliness like washing hands using soap after visiting
rest-room, before preparing food, after changing diapers and so on,
not to bring infected children to crowded places like department
stores, swimming pool and so on.
They should bring children that
acquire HFMD symptoms to a hospital or health clinic and not to attend
class as-the virus could infect other children, not to let infected
child play with uninfected - ones until the child has fully recovered
and to practise cleanliness while nursing infant and baby. -- Courtesy of Borneo
