Aquillah Spelling Bee Champ

Begawan - Siti NurAqillah binti Hj Abu Hanafiah from Batu
Marang Primary School yesterday spelled her way to become the champion
of the 2' Brunei English Language Teachers'' Association (BELTA)
Spelling Competition 2006 for the preliminary and Brunei II area round
at the Seri Manggis Hall of Dato Marsal Primary School.
The girl who has just finished her
PSR examination went head to head with some 47 students from 23
primary schools in the Brunei II area.
Overjoyed and delighted, Siti
NurAgillah said: "I didn't expect to win, the words were very tough in
the beginning. However, at the later stage I calmed down and was able
to get the spellings right."
According to her teacher, Cikgu
Noorhayatee binti Hj Yahya, Siti Nur Agiilah trained on her own by
reading the dictionary and that she only had one week to prepare for
the competition.
She added that Siti Nur Agillah was
one of the top students of the school who hopes to score straight As
in her PSR examination.
Meanwhile, Aimi Atiqah bintiAslin of
Sekolah Tentera Laut Di-Raja Brunei came in second place followed by
Nurhafizah bin Hj Ibrahim of Dato Marsal Primary School and Liwani
Syafiqah binti Bahari who came in third and fourth place respectively.

Prizes were presented by the guest of
honour, Ak Abdullah bin- Pg Hj Tengah, the deputy director of
Curriculum Development Department.
Cikgu
Hajah Jabaidah bin Pg Hj Sulaiman, the headmistress of Dato Marsal
Primary School said that the competition was to stir up students'
interest in the Enlgish language by enriching their vocabulary.
She also thanked the sponsors
including Hj Malai Mashor General Contractors, Hua Ho Department
Store, Macmillan Publishers Limited and Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd.
