Bandar Seri Begawan - Hari Raya is less than a week away and people are making a dash for tailor shops around the country to make sure that their outfits are fitted right and ready to flash this festive season. So what's new in the world of fashion this Raya?

According to Dyg Masnani binte Rafiee, the owner of Alyaa Beauty and Boutique in Kuala Belait, Nyonya Kebaya - a traditional figure hugging embroidered blouse worn with a batik sarong by women - is making a comeback this year.

Dubbed as a timeless traditional costume, Nyonya Kebaya is the `it' attire for all occasions as it is elegant, feminine, sensual, glamorous and fashionable for all ages. The modern touch of the attire is the custom-made pleat at the mid section of the sarong, which can be designed based on what the customer may have in mind, Dyg Masnani said.

For the modern look, the Kebaya can be worn with pants. It can also be used as a jacket over a simple sleeveless, spaghetti-strapped dress or tank top.

Baju Kurong is still in demand, she said. However, to make it more appealing to the younger generation new elements have been incorporated.

Handmade traditional Baju Kurong with intricate beadwork and embroidery seems to be the popular and classy choice this season. Most of Dyg Masnani's customers opt for chiffon material lined with soft cotton, making it more comfortable to wear.

Baju Kurong never goes out of style as it is ideal for both formal and informal occasions.

The small yet sophisticated Alyaa boutique has taken more than 200 orders before the Ramadhan month. Unfortunately, the boutique has stopped- taking orders since the end of August: But there's still some good news for last-minute shoppers as the boutique has a wide selection of ready-made outfits from Malaysia.

Of course no outfit would be complete without shoes and accessories. Dangling earrings, sparkling brooches, matching handbags, varieties of selendeng materials and silk scarves are just some of the accessories that can also be found at the boutique.
