Call For Security Solution To Deter Mobile Phone Theft

Bandar Seri Begawan - Amidst the hype of losing mobile phones via a chat line meeting in the latest modus operandi as reported in the Bulletin on Tuesday, phone shops call for a security solution to help members of the public secure their mobile phones.

The security solution could come in any forms such as an awareness programme for phone users or a barring of network services for lost or stolen phone.

Lee Siaw Boon, Marketing Manager of Dee Jay, told the Bulletin yesterday that for a more secure phone security, it needs the cooperation of both the consumer and the network service provider.

He advised consumers to always keep the warranty card with the serial number of the phone. He said it is important to remember or take note of mobile phone serial number for future references.

He added that Royal Brunei Police Force usually informs mobile phone shops of any lost or stolen mobile phones.

When the phones are reported missing, the serial number would play a vital role in identifying the phones or even barring of any operator network services in other countries, he added.

He also advised phone users to activate their phone lock function and any other security functions that the mobile phone has to increase the security level of the phone from being used with another SIM card in the case of theft or loss. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
